El Lladoner, Catalunya, Spain

The Mas Vell del Lledoner o Lladoner is a farn estate in Vallirana, Southwest of Barcelona composed of several buildings. The site has been protected as a cultural asset in the "Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia." Property records show that the estate has been in Romagosa hands since at least 1214.

There is a tradition that St. Francis of Assissi stayed at the Lladoner property as a guest of the Romagosa family during the early 1200's. This is credible in that there is documentation as to his having traveled from Barcelona to the Abbey of Poblet in 1211 to visit the abbot. Lladoner is on the way, and a reasonable stopping place. A chapel has been built on the grounds honoring this tradition. Records show that the the Canon of Lleida granted a license to build this chapel to Bernat Romagosa in 1558.
